Romans 1 branch

Karen grew up in Kenya and wanted to be a doctor or a wildlife researcher. Didn't exactly turn out that way! It's amazing how God opens doors, just not always the way we think.  She met and married her husband Phil and they moved to Canada where she chose to stay home when her children were little. When the kids were bigger, Karen began to write books which focus on her love of adventure and of nature.  Initially published by Tyndale and Multnomah, her children’s books for tweens and three inspirational romance novels are available on Amazon. Doors opened for Karen and her husband to teach at LeTourneau University; Phil taught aviation, and Karen taught biology. She made a study of God’s fingerprints in nature and loved to share what she learned with her biology students.  Here’s a link to her insights on God as creator and our responsibility to care for creation.

Now that she is retired and taking care of Phil who has developed dementia, the beauty of God in nature is even more important to her. Karen’s favourite poet is Gerard Manley Hopkins. His concept of "Inscape" says that looking deeply and carefully at nature shows something of nature of God. The way that God reveals himself in nature gives so much joy. This website is all about sharing that joy.

Throughout her life, Karen has always done art. Focusing on God’s beauty in nature she would do watercolour miniatures or macro photography. Her art is available in two places online. For those in the US it’s available through her Pixels website.  Those in Western Canada, including gift shops (there is a discount for bulk orders – contact Karen for the code) can order through her page with Calgary Custom Photo Services.

She has consistently worked with horses and has often seen how the way that horses learn illustrates how we can learn from God. That’s the focus of the short “Danny’s story” videos. She loves to share her love of God and of scripture by speaking at camps and leading Bible studies.
